Sam Clark smashes Motu Challenge record held by legendary Richard Ussher using CurraNZ

on October 24, 2019

BIG CurraNZ fan Sam Clark has smashed the record in the Motu Challenge, one of the premier Multisport events in New Zealand.

The three-time Coast To Coast champion lowered the record set in 2011 by Richard Ussher, one of New Zealand’s greatest endurance athletes.

Sam bettered the record by 16 minutes, ten seconds when finishing in a time of 6hrs 52 mins and 21 seconds.

The Motu Challenge involves six stages with 20km running, 65 km mountain biking, 60km road cycling and 27km kayaking around some of the most rugged terrain Opotiki and Whakatane have to offer.

This was Sam’s first Multisport race since returning from China in September where he and fellow Kiwi athletes raced to an unprecedented success in a series of international-class races, including the World Multisport Championship.

They used CurraNZ for that intense block of racing in temperatures up to 40C, where it gave them crucial performance and recovery advantages over their rivals.
