CurraNZ athlete Rachel Mayhew was crowned New Zealand’s Ocean Ski National Champion last month.
She says: “This was the first year the Bhutty Moore Memorial race doubled as the National Champs. I’ve done this race eight times before and this year it was super tough mentally and physically - it was extremely hot with quite flat conditions.
“It’s 32kms so you have to be prepared for the last half of the race with good hydration and nutrition.
"I tried to stick with the top men for the 32km and pushed myself along that way! I was super happy to take my 11th consecutive national title.
“CurraNZ benefited my training and racing massively, I’ve been taking them daily and believe they helped reduce my fatigue and helped improve my endurance - which is exactly what I needed for that two-and-a-half hour race!”
Then, to found off a stellar few weeks, Rachel took silver at the National Aquathlon championships in Taupo mid February.
