Dynamic Duo secure an Olympic spot at Paris for New Zealand

on March 15, 2024

In an electrifying display, CurraNZ ambassador Max Brown and his paddling partner Kurtis Imrie have secured a coveted spot for New Zealand at the Paris Olympics at the Oceania Canoe Sprint Championships held in Penrith, Sydney.

Representing their country in the K2 500m event, Max and Kurtis delivered standout performances, clinching victory and earning New Zealand four athlete quota spots for Paris.

Max shared his excitement about their achievement, highlighting the significance of the last-chance qualifying event and the intense competition they faced.

With their eyes set on the Olympic podium, Max and Kurtis are determined to build on their impressive performance in Tokyo, where they finished an admirable 5th place in the K2 final.

CurraNZ, a longtime supporter of Max, has been instrumental in powering his athletic journey since 2020 when he has climbed the world rankings.

Max says: "We are super stoked to have another shot at the Olympics. We are certainly looking to improve on our fifth at the last Olympics and are dreaming and scheming of a medal.

"However, we still have a trial process to go through in March so nothing is guaranteed. There is a really strong field of men in New Zealand at the moment, so whoever wins trials will be in really good shape for Paris."

CurraNZ stands proudly behind Max and Kurtis, who are poised to leave their mark on the world stage once again, representing New Zealand.
