CurraNZ athletes scoop National Off-Road Triathlon Championship titles

on March 18, 2020

THREE CurraNZ ambassadors took the top honours at the New Zealand Off Road Triathlon Championships in the Motatapu Off Road Triathlon on Saturday.

Up until the weekend, New Zealand sporting events had escaped disruption arising from the spread of Corona-Virus and our three NZ-resident triathletes were out in force at one of the South Island’s leading endurance events.

Sam Osborne (below) and Samantha Kingsford took out sensational wins in the men’s and women’s elite races, adding to their 2019 Pan-America Xterra Championship titles.

Not only that, Dougal Allan took runner-up spot behind Sam, an incredible performance just a week after finishing fifth in Ironman New Zealand.

This was Dougal’s third high-profile event in a busy racing block, which he kicked off with a second placing in the Coast to Coast World Multisport Championship on February 8. Many commentators were remarking on Dougal’s ambitious race strategy, going straight onto Ironman New Zealand and then onto the National Off-Road Champs (pictured, below).

Fortunately, armed with his ‘recovery beauties’ CurraNZ, Dougal was able to complete the trio of races, which he’s thankful for in light of world events.

Dougal said earlier this week: “The racing scene is very much in lockdown now by the looks of things. The National Multisport Champs due to be held on March 28 in Wanaka is looking to be postponed and Ironman Asia-Pacific is likely to be cancelled.

“I literally have no idea what my racing calendar will turn out to be at this stage, but I’m very glad I was able to do Ironman and Motatapu before the craziness hits.”
