CurraNZ athletes named to represent NZ at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships

on May 14, 2025

Athletics New Zealand has just announced the 31 athletes selected to represent Aotearoa at the 2025 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships, set to take place in Canfranc-Pirineos, Spain, from 24–28 September.

Among these elite off-road specialists are a mix of reigning national champions, experienced World Championship representatives, and some of New Zealand’s most exciting mountain and trail running talents. The squad includes 11 mountain runners and 20 trail runners, competing in both the Long and Short Trail disciplines.

We’re proud to share that around a third of the selected athletes are CurraNZ users, relying on the performance and recovery benefits of our purple power pills to help them train harder, recover faster, and compete at their best.

David Haunschmidt, the 'Flying Doctor' was named in the senior men's team for the Short Trail section and fellow Wellingtonian William Bell was named for the Long Trail men's event. William is a keen runner, having set the record at the inaugural Faultline 100-mile event last year.

“This team showcases the depth and diversity of mountain and trail running in New Zealand,” said Athletics NZ Chief Executive Cam Mitchell.

“These athletes have shown outstanding commitment and capability in one of the sport’s toughest disciplines, and I know they’ll represent our country with pride on the world stage.”

Jessica Campbell from Christchurch was selected to represent NZ in the senior women's Short Trail event. Jess has had a slow return from injury but has been diligently doing all the right things to reach a full recovery (see her article in our next newsletter).
