CurraNZ ambassador Laura Addie wins at World Ironman Championships, Kona

on October 15, 2019

OUR youngest member of the CurraNZ team, Laura Addie, has become World Ironman Champion for her age-group, at the tender age of just 24.

It is Laura’s first year stepping up to full-distance triathlon, and her stunning arrival on the big stage leaves no doubt about her huge potential in the sport.

Laura’s successful world title bid on her first attempt is even more incredible against the backdrop of injury niggles she has experienced this season. Glute and hip issues have plagued her summer and ruled her out of several races.

She qualified on her first and only start in an IronMan event in July, Vitoria-Gasqiez in Spain (pictured, left), which booked her ticket to the ‘big dance’ in Hawaii.

However, she has been in a race against time to overcome her hip problem and arrive at Kona race-fit and ready.

Without the benefit of lead-up races, Laura went to Kona hoping for a top-ten finish, but ultimately proved a class above with CurraNZ.

After sitting close to the leaders through the 116-mile bike course, she took command of the championship race ten miles into the marathon and won in a time of 10:44.49.

This event always attracts huge numbers of athletes, with 150 from Great Britain alone. Laura was just one of three select British females to take out wins at this World Championship.

Laura discovered triathlon at University, having been a national-level trampolinist at college. From winning sprint-distance medals at the British championships in 2017, she has made rapid progress through the sport and plans to turn professional next season.

She says: “I have been using CurraNZ for about 18 months after hearing about the product through my coach, Lucy Charles-Barclay.

“CurraNZ has really been put to the test over the last few months as I have stepped up my training to prepare for full-distance triathlon. I am pleased to say that they have reduced my fatigue and my legs have felt fresh after hard blocks of training, I can better maintain endurance thresholds and my recovery is astonishingly quick.

“I went a week without CurraNZ earlier in the season and the difference with and without was so noticeable – I’ve felt amazing since taking them again. I literally can’t recommend them enough!”

Laura is the third CurraNZ triathlete from our ambassador team in just five years to lift an Ironman World Championship title, after Lucy Charles (2015) and Jane Hansom (2016).
