Customer of the month is Backyard Ultra runner, Jeremy Pelvin.
The Cantabrian broke the Backyard record on New Zealand soil in 2023, which we incorrectly attributed to another runner in a previous newsletter and blogpost.
Jeremy contacted us to set the record straight and, after dispensing our profuse apologies, we invited him to share his full story - and he happily obliged.
Jeremy says, "After getting 37 laps at Krayzie’s in 2023 I was looking for things that could help me take my Backyard Ultra game to the next level.
“I wanted to qualify for the New Zealand Backyard team again so I decided to have a crack at the Arrowtown Backyard Ultra which was a new event on the calendar.
“I had been consistently improving my PB by a few laps every Backyard Ultra since my first in 2021 (19 laps at Riverhead), but I knew it was time to overhaul a few things if I wanted to reach what I thought was my full potential.
“I looked at what the best in the sport were doing and noticed everyone talking about CurraNZ. I figured it couldn’t hurt, ordered a few packs and started taking them daily in the months leading up to the race.
“At Arrowtown I was into the CurraNZ during the race, I nailed my nutrition and got the dream result. I added 13 laps to my PB and took it to 50 laps for 335km.
“I was the last person standing and, in the process, broke the record for most Backyard Ultra laps completed in New Zealand at that time.
“This event solidified my place in the New Zealand team for the Satellite World Champs in October this year. New Zealand is fielding a really strong team and I’m excited to be a part of it – and what we can do as a team.
“Personally, my goals remain the same – to push my limits and see how far and how long I can go for.”
